Recession? I’m Not Worried!
There’s been a LOT of talk lately about how the U.S. economy seems to be headed for a recession. People are starting to fret now that the “credit crunch” is widening outside of the housing market, and people are ping-ponging between calling the talk “gloom and doom” and then running for cover. I’m not worried…for once!
This may surprise some, given that we are pretty far down the food chain in income and I work for tips in a discretionary-spending type of business (pizza delivery). But really, I am not worried this time around…I am only a few months from being debt free but the mortgage and thanks to budgeting skills I have learned over the past year I know that we will make ends meet, plus a little more for building up a good full-fledged emergency fund even if we got down to only hubby’s income!
Over the past year I have watched the news and have seen the signs since at least the summer, but was not concerned enough to blog about it here. I know I will be just fine financially. Perhaps the best hedge against a slowdown or a recession or (gods forbid) a full-fledged depression is becoming debt free. It would be even easier if our mortgage was paid off (like my neighbors two houses down) but since my mortgage was the only smart thing I did before I found Dave Ramsey my family will still be okay.
Should I go into yet another one of my thunderous posts about how people should get out of debt? Naw…I don’t think I’ve had enough coffee to get into that one today. Y’all should know my feelings about that already anyway LOL and if not my blog archive is in the sidebar. I was just musing about how I am not worried about the economy anymore, since we should be debt free but the house in just a couple months.
