Real Estate and Mortgages
Tonight we taped the Real Estate and Mortgages lesson in Financial Peace University: Dave Ramsey’s first love! This is a fun lesson, and one Dave Ramsey is both extremely knowledgeable and passionate about. And it’s also one that has gotten him rather riled recently with all the subprime mortgage calls he’s been taking on the radio show in the past several months. Surprisingly, Dave didn’t even touch on the whole subprime situation. Instead, he stressed the importance of following his Baby Steps in the proper order, and while he has this dream of everyone paying cash for their houses, he also recognizes the reality of some housing markets and says to put at least a 10% down payment on any purchase.
Before we got to the Real Estate and Mortgages lesson, we had a few more “pickups” to do and also he wanted to tape an intro and conclusion for a rather special video: one for people in bankruptcy. Apparently the “only good thing” in the recent bankruptcy law rewrite is a requirement that anyone filing bankruptcy must attend a financial management course that has been approved, and Financial Peace University has already received approval to be one of the classes. Since Dave Ramsey has been through it himself, he knows what these folks need to get their lives back into order.
Also, tonight I wore my new “Debt Free Revolution” T-shirt to the taping :) Along with getting a few compliments from the event staff, I had someone walk up to me, shake my hand, and tell me, “Hi, I’m Mike and I’ve been reading your blog.” I thought OH BOY! A real live FAN! LOL Actually, Mike is also on the forums over at MyTotalMoneyMakeover.com with me. So much for fame….
And as a final note, tomorrow before the taping begins, we have a special treat: Dave Ramsey has gotten the legendary Zig Ziglar to come to Franklin, Tennessee! I’ll be sure to take notes and report back to y’all on THAT!
