Insurance in your Financial Plan

Tonight the Financial Peace University tapings resumed, with the wonderful exciting topic of…insuranceDave Ramsey says he really doesn’t like teaching this lesson, because it’s so technical and…well…technical.  You could just tell he was biting back the word “BORING!”  Although he did tell enough jokes to keep us awake, the room just lacked the “zip” of the previous tapings.  But seriously, just how excited can any regular person get about insurance?

At least we didn’t hit that wonderfully bland topic first thing: Dave Ramsey had to do some “pickups” which are corrections to bloopers he made previously.  He joked about how much easier live radio is because if he makes a mistake there, he just says “blah” corrects himself and rolls onward.

The jokes continued when the announcer (shoot me, can’t remember his name tonight!) introduced Dave as “The king of cash!  The sultan of swipe!” instead of “nationally syndicated radio talk show host and New York Times bestselling author…” and Dave chased him out on the stage.  Then it took almost five minutes for everyone to quit laughing, especially Dave Ramsey himself!  Of course that joke was brought up at the end of the lesson so we could all leave with a good laugh.

Ah yes…insurance.  You KNOW Dave Ramsey went on his kick about how horrible a ripoff cash value life insurance is…that’s a given.  He also stressed what to look for when shopping for insurance that he does recommend:

  • Homeowners’ or Renters’ insurance
  • Auto insurance
  • Health insurance (he included a section on HSAs)
  • Disability insurance
  • Long-Term Care insurance (for nursing homes)
  • Identity Theft Protection
  • Life insurance…as in LEVEL TERM!

And that’s about as exciting as a lesson on insurance can possibly get, folks LOL
